A professor in the Athletic Training program, Dr. Ambegaonkar works with people across the lifespan to help them perform better, reduce their injury risk and improve their health.
He is a certified athletic trainer, strength and conditioning specialist, and occupational therapist.
Overall Research Vision: Health Across the Lifespan
- In Older Adults - using community-engaged arts programs he studies how arts (dance, music) and physical activity and can reduce falls risk, and positively address social isolation
- In Adults - using preventative screenings and epidemiological methods, he studies injury risk factors and ways to improve performance in artists and athletes
- In Children - using biosensors, he studies how the arts and physical activity can positively address the childhood obesity epidemic
Leadership and Professional Experience
- Strategic Vision Task Force and Ethics Committee, International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS)
- Past Board Director, Past Chair, Research Committee, IADMS
Founding Co-Director, Sports Medicine Assessment Research and Testing (SMART) Laboratory - focuses on injury prevention, neuro-
mechanical assessment, concussion, and sports performance across the lifespan
- Founder, SHARE (Supporting Healthy Arts Research) Consortium - a vibrant multi-institutional and multi-center collaborative consortium with the overarching vision of improving performing artists’ health
- Co-Founder, SADMSA (South Asian Dance Medicine & Science Association) to help improve the health, wellbeing and fitness of South Asian dancers
- Fellow, International Association of Dance Medicine & Science (FIADMS)
He has published over 60 articles, serves on Editorial Boards of the Journal of Athletic Training, Journal of Dance Medicine & Science and is a Peer-Reviewer for over 25 different journals.
